THE ONE THING TO ASK YOUR WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER
You probably haven't hired too many photographers in your life, so you might not know exactly what to ask me or others you're considering. If I could ask a wedding photographer ONE question, here's what it would be: Can I see a gallery of a complete wedding?
By the time you're interviewing your potential photographers, you've already looked through their website and public galleries. You'll have a good sense of their style and fit for the day you're planning. But what you won't have seen is their full range across a single wedding.
A wedding is a complicated, day-long event. Your photographer needs to be able to move between a wide variety of lighting situations, work comfortably with you, your family, and your guests, and capture a complete record of the day.
Your photographer will capture stunning shots with eye-popping compositions and poses.
But just as important is their consistency across the board, including their ability to capture quieter moments, details, and candid glimpses of your loved ones to cherish forever.
Take a look at a whole wedding, and see what you think!
Cecília & Dave | A Spring Wedding | Rochester, NY
I travel all over central and upstate NY for weddings. The finger lakes, the Adirondacks, the capital region, sometimes even over into other states! But, even though Rochester is only an hour and a half away, I don’t actually shoot up that way very often. So, it was a fun and new adventure for me as I met up with CecÍlia and Dave on their wedding day. Their wedding took place in the new lakeside building in the Abraham Lincoln Park, and let me tell you…that is one gorgeous hidden gem. Trees, water, a beautiful new building, honestly there’s not a whole lot more you could want in a wedding venue if the outdoor vibe is your jam! When I got to the location and wandered around, it made me think of camping, so serene, quiet and calming. Exactly the type of spot I love to shoot in.
CecÍlia and Dave only booked me a few weeks before their wedding, so I didn’t have a ton of time to get to know them before hand, which always leaves me a little nervous, but there was definitely not any reason to be. Dave and CecÍlia are warm, kind, loving people, and they welcomed me into their wedding day with their family and friends.
It was an honor to capture their lakeside vows, which were streamed live to Brazil for CecÍlia’s family who could not make it. I witnessed and documented touching speeches from their beloved friends and created gorgeous portraits of these two sweet souls.
I say it every time and I will keep on saying it, I am forever and always honored by my couples that trust in me and allow me to document such a special day of their lives. I am so glad that I got be there for them on their wedding day, and I’m excited to share their photos with you.
Whitney & Brad | An Otesaga Resort Hotel Wedding | Cooperstown, NY
When you have a winter wedding in upstate, NY there is a certain risk you are taking. It could be frigid and cold with negative temperatures. There could be 3 feet of snow on the ground with more falling. But, there is also the chance you could end up like Whitney and Brad with the perfect day of sunshine and snowflakes.
I couldn’t believe it as we stepped outside for the first look. Perfect fluffy flakes were falling around us. As if that wasn’t enough, the sun peeked through the clouds illuminating the two as we took photos on the grounds of the Otesaga.
Besides our magical portrait session, there were so many beautiful pieces to this wedding day. Getting ready surrounded by her family and friends, the wedding ceremony officiated by Whitney’s brother, beautiful and heartfelt toasts celebrating both Brad, Whitney and Whitney’s late father. I feel so honored that I was there to document it and I hope you’ll enjoy these photos of your day just as much as I did.
